Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Re: CMP 1911 Sales

I use my gunsmith for transfers. So far, so good.

Re: Odd 5 surplus rifles one should never buy

As I have been told before, "Safeties aren't." Just ask those people who decided to work on their Remington 700's with the safety on and the gun still loaded. The only safe gun is a fully unloaded one. Why any judge ruled for people working on loaded guns with the safety on is beyond me. That's stup...

Re: Clay Plug In Minnie Balls

I made my own cases using Magtech 24GA shotgun brass. I think it is only shipped to the USA from Brazil once a year and to Midway, Graf, and perhaps the Sportmen's Guide online stores. I annealed the top half, ran it through my .577 Snider dies and trimmed about .500" off of the top to size it to 2 ...

Re: Clay Plug In Minnie Balls

The air hardened clay plugs I used seemed to help as I also shot some rounds without plugs. I'll try to quantify it next time around. The $5 tub of 2.5 pounds of air hardened clay by Crayola is about the cheapest air hardening clay out there. Not exactly a massive investment, but worth it. They did ...

Re: Advice on annealing--and YouTube posts to evaluate

Since I used to be an inspector in a heat treating factory, I've personally quenched 0-1 tool steel in oil and seen it give off a green flame. I just checked a technical site on steel and indeed, O-1 is referred to as oil hardened steel. Also, A2 tool steel is air hardened since I have laid numerous...

Re: Memphis Belle On Display At USAF Museum

I've been in the one in the mall and was highly impressed by the lobby as it contained the original Wright Flyer, The Spirit Of St. Louis, and the Apollo 11 capsule. As for the rest of the museum, the USAF Museum was better. While I saw parts of the Enola Gay at the Smithsonian, the USAF Museum has ...

Re: Memphis Belle On Display At USAF Museum

I would doubt you would recognize it anymore since it has grown leaps and bounds. The one you saw then only had two hangars and now it has four and an attached movie theater specializing in 3-D movies. I remember the one before that at a different site on base. I did drive by on Friday and noticed t...

Re: Advice on annealing--and YouTube posts to evaluate

Thanks for the info on the temp sticks. I still like quenching in water, if only to make the brass safe for the touch quickly. Now to find out if the local weld shop delivers or I have to go there in person, argh, growl, argh. Now for Graf's to restock 24GA Magtech brass shotgun hulls. Oh the agony ...

Re: Clay Plug In Minnie Balls

Well, this is Crayola Air-Dry Clay, only the best for my Minnie balls. I'll still do it just to fill the air gap if nothing else. I hear it is used to make hand print molds of little kids as its main function in life. I'm guessing this stuff shatters if I look at it wrong. I did not waste any more m...

Re: Memphis Belle On Display At USAF Museum

I'm glad they listened to him and I bet that meant a lot. Somehow I don't think he was their first special tour for a veteran after hearing your story and hopefully not their last. I shall have to ask one of the volunteers how often they do that and thank them for that. That's really going above and...

Re: Memphis Belle On Display At USAF Museum

Glad to hear they let your Dad have a grand tour. The volunteer guides are mostly retired USAF personnel. They do have an open F-4 cockpit section on display you are allowed to climb into someplace. If your Dad got to go into the full aircraft on display, that was exceptionally nice of them. I imagi...

Memphis Belle On Display At USAF Museum

The original Memphis Belle B-17 bomber is due to be fully displayed in the USAF Museum on May 17th, the anniversary of her 25th and last mission this Thursday. I stopped by this weekend for a peek, but she is being blocked by a wall of high black curtains right now. The museum's website lists a fly ...

Clay Plug In Minnie Balls

I have read where the British put a clay or wooden plug in the hollow cavity in the back of Minnie balls. I was thinking of using some air hardening clay in the cavity of my ,575 Minnie balls cast from the Lee original mold. I have a three band Snider I would like to use them in and it seems most pe...

Re: RUBY Won't Load

The gunsmith did a good job on the ejector and it shoots just fine now. My buddy had a load of modern pistols and liked the Ruby very much. Nice recoil, look and feel.

Re: WOW Just Simply WOW

The speaker never addressed the topic at hand and that is whether or not to host gun shows. The topic was posted a bit below the video in the description box. Great gun rights speech, but he missed the point entirely. I would guess the citizens want to stop the gun show loop hole. Unfortunately, I h...
