Nice info on the real McCoy's. I had a jjco put together from Lithgow parts, the date on the receiver was '45 but the letter code wasn't correct for that time frame. I think Burner may have hit this one on the head. I've tried several different ones including what I think we're the good ones and never had great luck. I will try this procedure as you guys describe. It may have been my technique was the problem.

SMLE by a SMILE, there are still good ones out there, my n1 mk3, is BSA from 1917/18 and has a beauty of a bore, brother Bob P on this site sold it to me around a year ago. Be patient and wait for the right one, but go for the SMLE first.
