Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Re: Found some surplus 8mm.

So I bought more of it. 2 bandoleers of 1938 stamped Turk 8mm. There's only a couple handful left at my local shop. One bandoleer was 1937. I left that one alone. Lol.

Re: Canadian 8mm Mauser?

The black tip isn't mine, it's just from a pic snagged from google. Mine are all uncolored ball ammo. If I found black tip, I wouldn't want to shoot it because scarcity.

Re: Canadian 8mm Mauser?

Unmarked box sounds right. Lol. The only indication was marker scrolled 8mm on the outside. I got permission to look at it before picking it up. Boxer primed is a bonus. I've saved several berdan cases I'm hoping to try coverting to boxer.

Canadian 8mm Mauser?

So I nabbed a box of mystery 8mm Mauser ammo/ 7.92x57. The headstamp reads 7.92 MM 44. Research tells me that MM is simply millimeters, and doesn't stand for an arsenal. Comparing it to Turk, and Egyptian 8mm, it is visually the same dimensions. Also read that it was made by Dominion Arsenal? There ...

Re: The Old Forum.

This didn't translate well to text. That sort of fun, nostalgic stuff. I got my first taste of surplus around 20 years ago, and between 2007, and say 2010 was kinda of a magic time. Got my C&R, bought tons of cool stuff, blew through a lot of ammo with a very close friend who had recently gotten his...

Re: Gun Shows: When Did Our World Go Nuts?

I haven't had much luck with the two gun shows I have been to in the last couple years. One I got a good deal on once fired brass from, and the other I got a little .45 Philly Derringer from for $100. Other than that? Nada. There were a few desirable items, but the prices were higher than I felt was...

Re: Found some surplus 8mm.

So I finally got out and shot some of this stuff. The Turk went off without a hitch. Recoil wasn't even too bad. Lol. The Egyptian had one round that needed a second strike out of 30. Not bad for older surplus.

Very nice collection!
I too prefer some character in older rifles. Tangible history.

The Old Forum.

Hey all. This is sort of a reminiscing thing for me. Feel free to jump in if you like. I was just musing over the last couple days. Cleaned up some guns, arranged my safe, moved some reloading gear around. I really miss the old forum. Not that what we have now is bad. I'm just kinda waxing nostalgic...

Re: Venezuelan 7x57

I believe 8mm clips will work, though there's supposed to be differences. Might just be how the clip is constructed? I've heard of hangfires, and failure to fire just in general. It's pretty old ammo at this point, but I've shot Austrian ammo of similar vintage.

Venezuelan 7x57

Hey all. First time I've seen this in a few years. First time I bought any. I kinda wish I would have bought a bunch back when, but I heard horror stories... so these are more collection than for shooting. I may light off a one of the two boxes I picked up. But hey... I've got 7mm clips if nothing e...

Re: My Chilean 1895

I think some Boer guns were diverted to fulfill the Chilean contract, but I never seem to get my head wrapped around that story.

I've shot it off and on since I've owned it. Recoil is pretty easy. I've not benched it for groups, but I have made soda bottles dance.

Re: My Chilean 1895

It's a C prefix, but not OVS. Artifacts in the bore is dust, and fuzz from gun sock. Lol.

My Chilean 1895

Just sharing. No fancy titles. Had this one for several years. M1895, and made in 1895 by all I can tell. Ludwig Loewe. Pre DWM. Antique. Has the crest still. In original 7x57. Bolt is unfortunately a mismatch, but good shooting, clean bore. There's something about shooting these small ring Mausers....
