Meanwhile in hometown news.

Chuck Yeager said any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. If you can fly the plane the next day it's and excellent landing. This one was just shy of excellent, by one sign post. Note that I drive this route at least once a week. https://www.kctv5.com/news/local_news/beechcraft-twin-bon...

Re: Winchester Model 68 for $100

Yeah. My experience with the old Winchester .22's is that the stock pitch is not right for a scope, so it feels a little awkward. Iron sights are good for that one. The old Winchesters are stupid accurate. I have a 1940's vintage 69A Target model and the first time I fired it was off of a rest at 25...

Re: Winchester Model 68 for $100

Nice score. You could probably sell the scope (if not broken) for what you paid for the whole rig. Have you fire it yet. Just wondering how it performs.

If you really get in a pinch, paper back books can be used. Kindles ... not so good. Don't ask me how I know.

Re: 75 years ago today

Rob, I've read a book on the Battle of Iwo Jima, a book on the Ninth Marines (my dad's regiment), and the 3rd Division after action reports on the Battle of Iwo Jima. Any time the Sea Bees were mentioned they received high praise for their ingenuity and persistence building something resembling an i...

75 years ago today

75 years ago today, my dad and a lot of other men from the 3rd Marine Division landed on a miserable volcanic island halfway between the Marianas Islands and mainland Japan. That little island was know as Iwo Jima. 75 years ago tomorrow, he was in combat. On March 2nd or 3rd a severe blast concussio...

Improvise - Adapt - Overcome

Improvise – adapt – overcome My dad was a Marine who fought on Guam and Iwo Jima during WW II, and while he didn’t talk about the horrors of the Pacific campaign he occasionally related some of the more humorous events of his deployment. This is one that I believe must have happened on Guam. As the ...

Great video, Tommy. That's pretty much what it looks like in action.

Re: Something I can recommend

That looks like the one I have. The rifling is pretty close due to the 45 degree mirror, but it might be possible to remove the mirror and look down the bore - mirror just screws on. I've taken some pics but since photobucket decided not to play nice, I don't know how to post them. Also, they look b...

Something I can recommend

Got Teslong borescope for Christmas. Cool tool that plugs into the USB port on my computer. They are about $50 on Amazon. I tried it on my Winchester 69A bolt action .22 which has a 25" barrel. With the bolt removed, I was able to scope the thing going in from the breach all the way to the muzzle wi...

Re: You WW I buffs might enjoy this.

I also watched "They Shall Not Grow Old." Peter Jackson did an amazing job restoring, colorizing, and adjusting the frame rate on original footage. Most of it looked like it could have been made yesterday. On a side note, 100 years ago, my grandfather was in the U.S. Army , fighting in France. He re...

You WW I buffs might enjoy this.

I'm always intrigued by old photos overlayed on the same scene in current times but this is the first time I've seen it done with 100 year old movie footage. Battle of Somme footage. At about the 22 minute mark you expect to see British soldiers step from 1916 to 2016. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
