Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Re: You WW I buffs might enjoy this.

I also watched "They Shall Not Grow Old." Peter Jackson did an amazing job restoring, colorizing, and adjusting the frame rate on original footage. Most of it looked like it could have been made yesterday. On a side note, 100 years ago, my grandfather was in the U.S. Army , fighting in France. He re...

You WW I buffs might enjoy this.

I'm always intrigued by old photos overlayed on the same scene in current times but this is the first time I've seen it done with 100 year old movie footage. Battle of Somme footage. At about the 22 minute mark you expect to see British soldiers step from 1916 to 2016. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Not that I would do either, but why is it if I wear blackface I'm a racist but if I put on a dress and makeup I'm empowered?

Re: Midway Movie Review

The one thing that bothered me was when the carrier was not steaming fast enough into the wind to effectively launch the planes. I'm sure that's a possibility and may have actually happened at some point, but with all the people involved in a launch it seems unlikely that nobody would say, "Hey! We ...

Re: Midway Movie Review

I pretty much agree. It exceeded my expectations, too. From what I know about the battle it appeared to be about as historically accurate as it could have been. I was impressed that the casting agents managed to find actors who looked so much like the people they were portraying ... especially Woody...

Re: The Old Forum.

Yeah. Those were the days. Best deal I got was a K-31 from AIM at $59.95 delivered. Probably the most accurate rifle I've ever owned, but it felt awkward with a scope and my old eyes couldn't sort out the iron sights. Sold it for 3 times what I paid for it. Back then you could get SKS's for under $1...

Re: The Old Forum.

I remembered the forum before the last one. The one we are on now is, I believe, the third iteration. The first one was a part of SurplusRifle.com or *.org. That was a great site with lots of sponsors and tons of info on old mil-surps ... manuals galore, history, and even some editorials. Lots of sp...

Re: Clearance sale on ammo boxes

Just a quick follow-up. Mine were marked .40 S&W, not .45 ACP, but they DO work just fine for .45.

Pretty decent ammo boxes BTW.

Clearance sale on ammo boxes

Just a heads -up. Grissly Tools is clearing out their plastic ammo boxes. Selection is limited but I ordered 30 of the .45 ACP ammo boxes for .35 each. Should be here this afternoon.

Re: They Shall Not Grow Old

Forgot to mention that I watched about a third of the documentary last night, and will watch the rest of it within a day or two. The job they did colorizing old film and "smoothing" the motion is astounding. Some of it looks like it was shot yesterday. Kudos to Peter Jackson for keeping their memori...

Re: They Shall Not Grow Old

There is one poppy for every life lost during the war. Actually it's one poppy per thousand. That museum is actually on my list. Now to convince the Mrs to see it with me. When you go, after you've had enough of the museum have some barbecue at Fiorella's Jack Stack. It's just north of the railroad...

Re: They Shall Not Grow Old

Thanks for the heads-up on the movie. I've been wanting to see it.

Also, just a reminder, the USA WW I Museum is in Kansas City. If you are interested in the history of the Great War, and you are anywhere near KC be sure to check it out.

A brief shift in paradigm

I've lived in the Kansas City area all my life. The paradigm for local cuisine has been barbecue for as long as I can remember. If it's moving less than three miles per hour around here, it's at risk of being thrown in the smoker and slathered with sauce. Whether it's in a sandwich or just a plate o...

Finally found one

I've had a S&W 5906 for several years, but have never been able to find a holster I liked that fit the thing. Bought an Uncle Mikes polymer holster at first but I thought I was going to have to get out a saw to remove the pistol from it. Then I got a thumb snap nylon holster with a built-in mag pouc...
