Re: How many hours of work to make a Mauser Receiver

Per Springfield Armory’s display a 1903 receiver took 125 operations, (upper band 38, trigger 19, bolt 77) if that helps anyone. Figure you have 30-40 milled parts in a Mauser at an average of 20-30 operations per part you’re looking at 1000 unique operations. Some factories might have had a dedicat...

Type 99 w/ bayonet and frog

Stopped in at my LGS to pick up some powder and saw a Type 99 on the rack. Didn’t have a lot of time to look it over, but it had a full mum, matching bolt, AA sights. Had a ding in the right side of the trigger guard and a sliver about the size of my ring finger missing from the right side of the st...

You've put a lot of time into that project, the (accuracy) gains seem worth it.

laminated handguard on Russian SKS

I was looking at a 1954 Izhevsk SKS that is for sale. It has not been refurbed (still has it's hardwood stock and the bolt carrier is still in the white), but the handguard is laminated. Is this normal or was this a replacement done either while still in military service or sometime over here. My mi...

Ian at Forgotten Weapons did a video on one a few years ago. They seem to have been a great solution to the problem at hand. Your example looks great.

Re: LB No.4 Mk.1 repaired handguard

Here we go. It does look like there was a small crack starting to form. http://i.imgur.com/Ze10tmH.jpg Brian Dick of EFD rifles suggested that this rifle had seen service in Greece (based on a 46' FTR stamp on the collar). I also spotted a very similar LB No. 4 that has Greek militia markings. http...

Ooh, very nice. I have a 49/56 and love it. A 49 would be great to pick up, but I think a FN49 may have to come first.

Very nice, how's the bore? Those carbines are handy, and the first 5 rounds are a hoot. After that things become less fun.
