Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Re: Vets I knew

There was a Korean War vet I kind of knew when I was a kid. I had been told that when he was in high school he was a great basketball player. He went in the Army shortly after he graduated high school and ended up in Korea, I think in late 1950 or early '51. When he came back, he went to a basketbal...

grinding question

Hey folks. I have a K98 that I bought from an associate about 10 years ago. It's mostly numbers matching except the bolt. It's an AX code, 1944 dated receiver. All of the dirty birds have been thoroughly removed by grinding. A few of the waffennampfs remain, very few. In discussion with a semi-serio...

Re: SR 71 Speed Check.

When I was at Iwakuni Marine Corps Air Base, Japan in 1976, the MP's showed up at our shop one day and hustled us all into the shop and closed the doors. They wouldn't say why or what was happening, we figured a surprise visit from POTUS Carter or the Commandant. One of my buddies had his eye up to ...

Re: Gun shows

There are only a couple of gun shows that are close to me, and usually it's like WalMart, the aisles are so crowded that you can't get thru. I don't mind, but when you hear some of the conversations, you wonder why are those folks even there? Congrats to the OP for the Steyr, good looking piece.

Re: Would this be a good price?

Just a quick update to the original post. I've been in the shop three times, and the lowest he's willing to go is $285, plus tax, title, license, destination fee, etc. So I guess I'll have to start the old "picking up aluminum cans for cash" gig again, and contact Todd. I don't have FaceBook (and pr...

Re: I picked up this 10th Series Nagoya

A guy from work has a good looking last ditch, that he got in a trade (says he "had to take it" if he wanted the other rifle), that he has had for 4 or 5 years, and never shot, and probably never will, but he doesn't want to sell it, because he never sells a gun once he buys it. It's enough to make ...

Looking Back

It was probably 10 years gone by now. I was helping my Uncle on his farm, and we were at a small snack shack, taking a break. There were 3 or 4 other gentlemen my Uncle's age there, passing the time of day. I knew they were all WW2 vets, but I wasn't sure which branch they had served in. When a paus...

Arisaka info site?

I remember the old site had a link to an Arisaka info site, where one could track down manufacturing dates by serial numbers, manufacturers codes, bayonet info, etc. Does anyone have that link? I picked up 2 bayonets a couple weeks ago, and was wanting to "decode" who made them and when. Thanks for ...

Re: Would this be a good price?

Thanks for the input, fellas. I thought it was a bit on the high side, but just wanted to confirm. I doubt he will come down to $250, he's got the reputation of "That's what I'm asking because that's what it's worth". Never hurts to try, though. I do recall it had a cleaning rod with a brass tip on ...

Would this be a good price?

I was at a lgs (local gun shop) this afternoon and I was looking at some rifles he had on display for sale. One caught my eye, and from what I could make out it is a 1938 or 1939 dated K. Kale Turkish Mauser. The way he had it on display made it difficult to give it a good once-over, but the sale ta...

Re: Old member from the old forum

Well, since it's a "new" site, I'll reintroduce myself. I'm from west central Illinois, I am a Marine Corps veteran (1975-1979), trained in the ways of the combat engineer. I have a modest collection of milsurps. My latest acquisition was a 1942 dated Springfield Armory M1 Garand, with a 1955 barrel...

Colt Lightning double action, doesn't

Mods, if this is not in the right place, please either move or delete. Hey guys, I'm hoping you can give me some direction on this. It belongs to a Viet Nam vet, a Navy corpsman who spent time with Marine Recon (and the stories he tells!!). The revolver is an 1877 Colt Lightning double action. It wo...
