Living in Kansas myself, did not think about the laws governing our communist states. You are probably correct about that. what a shame. As for the rear sight, I cannot say for sure that it would not break, but I would attempt to straighten it. I'm sure it is not hardened so I think it very unlikely...

I was watching this one as well but I decided I just did not want to have to deal with the muzzle issue and I really was wanting a 30-06 variant. I wonder if you could sleeve the end and then re-thread it? I don't know if there would be enough material on the sleeve for threads but its not like thos...
