Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Re: 1873 Springfield Trapdoor

Re: nothernug's post. The only Trapdoor I own is a family heirloom passed down to me by my father. He bought it sometime in 1952 and said he saw it in a rack at a hardware store with about a dozen others. Price, $15.00 ea.

I'm adding this to my watch list especially since it has subtitles. With my bad hearing I still can't hear words even with my new hearing aids.

Re: Unfortunate divorce

They're absolutely right about the best years being ahead of you. My first marriage lasted 17 years before I destroyed it by being immature and selfish. I didn't rush into any new relationship but stayed to myself, living alone and sorting out all the stupid things I'd done to my wife who was, and s...

Re: Battle of Midway movie

I watched the "old" Midway movie last night on FLIX and I just could not enjoy it because of the constant in your face inconsistencies . Pilots climbing into Wildcats and taking off in Hellcats, planes attacking the carriers with no bombs or torpedoes present, gasoline bombs on model ships, etc. I s...

Re: M4 sherman In WWII

I just finished reading Cooper's book on the Sherman tank and one thing kept coming to mind as I read it. I think the writer(s) of the movie "FURY" read the book too. So many things talked about in the book were depicted in the movie. Coincidence? A great book and a great film.

Re: Battle of Midway movie

I saw some previews of this "new" Midway movie on You-tube and I agree that it's going to be a massive CGI movie. And why do they think they can redo a great film and make it better than the original? CGI doesn't impress me outside films like Jurassic World for obvious reasons. Are film makers just ...

Re: United States Military Academies

Re: Spit shines. When I was at Chanute, in tech school, I saw a few of my classmates doing a weird thing to spit shine their boots. They'd layer polish onto the toes and then squirt lighter fluid in it. Then they set in on fire briefly, blew it out and rubbed it out to a fantastic mirror shine. This...

Re: United States Military Academies

I visited the Air Force Academy back in the early 90's, didn't get to tour the buildings but toured their static aircraft displays. The old B-52 BUFF brought back memories of my tech school time at Chanute AFB Il. in 66-67. And you're right about Colorado being one beautiful state. I've lived in the...

Re: Uss Truman

I've always been a Harry Truman fan, and I respect President Trump and I was glad to see the President do that, but I got to thinking about one underlying aspect of that action. Truman was a Democrat and with elections coming up next year could this be a way of gathering undecided votes? [ M...

Re: China

I heard someone say that if we went to war with China, nuclear or not, it would put every Wal-Mart in the world out of business. He was joking but any kind of nuclear exchange would definitely be the end of life as we know it. The suicide rate among the surviving populations here in the states would...

Re: Supreme court got it right

There was a little Mom & Pop coffee shop I used to visit, in the wee hours during my shift, that sold made to order sandwiches & etc. I noticed many times that Pop would take the customer's money, hand them their change, then take their sandwich and wrap it. No hand washing involved. Gave me chills ...

I'm sure the Japanese were well aware of the role the Hornet played in the Tokyo raids and had a rather large axe to grind when they attacked it.

I was in the State Trooper Academy in Montgomery, Alabama, Monday through Friday. Got to go home on weekends and saw a lot of the national celebrations on TV. That's about it.

Re: Cleaned up an 1884 Trapdoor Springfield

A beautiful job considering what you started with. I have a 73 TD, made in 1884, been in the family since 53. My Dad, bless his heart, made a wall hanger out of it in the mid 50's. Varnished the stock and painted the metal parts gold. After I inherited it in the late 80's the gold was all but flaked...
